BATAAN CHALLENGE MILESTONES
There are seven checkpoints along the route. Hitting these milestones will unlock badges. The recount below is an approximation of milage. These checkpoints are based on a recount by Clifford Bluemel. Clifford was an American Brigadier General. He commanded the 31st Division during the Battle of Bataan before being captured by Japanese forces and held as a prisoner of war for three years.
- Checkpoint #1 = 6.58 miles. Their own guns shelled Americans & Filipinos.
- Checkpoint #2 = 14.92 miles Prisoners were shot & beaten trying to get water.
- Checkpoint #3 = 25.12 miles First meal served.
- Checkpoint #4 = 38.72 miles The brutality towards the prisoners increased.
- Checkpoint #5 = 46.22 miles. Bluemel saved the life of Gen. Stevens.
- Checkpoint #6 = 52.06 miles. American beheaded
- Checkpoint #7 = 60-.93 miles Prisoners were transferred to freight cars.
